Illustrative PMA water landscape beneath an open sky

Suspended solids. Understand the primary-treatment load.

Incoming solids and organic-demand indicators help define the chemically enhanced pre-treatment duty and the downstream objective.

What the signal can tell you

Changes in incoming loading need to be understood in the context of the primary process and the treatment stages that follow it.

Put the information into context.

01

Read the water

Incoming solids and organic-demand indicators help define the chemically enhanced pre-treatment duty and the downstream objective.

02

Connect the model

Compass CEP supports a site-specific coagulant-demand prediction ahead of primary clarification.

03

Agree the evidence

Agree the solids or optical signal, sample point, reference evidence and primary-effluent or downstream-loading objective.

The measurement arrangement and control objective are agreed for the works. Performance is assessed against site evidence.

Connect the incoming load to primary clarification.

A solids record is useful when it is tied to a defined point in the process and a reliable reference method. For a CEP review, incoming variation should be considered with primary-effluent evidence and the duty expected of the downstream process. A single solids reading cannot describe the whole pre-treatment requirement.

Are turbidity and suspended solids interchangeable?

No universal conversion should be assumed. The relationship between an optical signal and a reference solids result needs evidence for the application.
